Classic BLT

Classic BLT

By Food E Fare

A classic BLT is a simple and popular sandwich that features three main ingredients: bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The name "BLT" stands for the initials of these key components. The BLT is known for its delicious combination of crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, and ripe tomatoes, often accompanied by mayonnaise and sandwiched between slices of toasted bread. Here's a basic recipe for a classic BLT:

Ingredients:

  • Bacon strips (about 3-4 per sandwich)
  • Lettuce leaves (commonly iceberg or romaine)
  • Tomato slices
  • Mayonnaise
  • Bread slices (toasted, if desired)

Instructions:

Cook the Bacon:

  • Fry or bake the bacon until it reaches your desired level of crispiness. Drain excess fat on paper towels.

Prepare the Vegetables:

  • Wash and prepare the lettuce leaves. Slice the tomatoes into thin, even slices.

Toast the Bread (Optional):

  • Toast the bread slices if you prefer a warm and crispy texture for your sandwich.

Assemble the BLT:

  • Spread mayonnaise on one or both sides of the bread slices.
  • Arrange a layer of lettuce leaves on one slice of bread.
  • Place the cooked bacon strips on top of the lettuce.
  • Add slices of ripe tomato over the bacon.
  • Top with the second slice of bread, mayo side down.

Cut and Serve:

  • If desired, cut the sandwich in half diagonally for easier handling. Serve the classic BLT immediately.

Note:

Optional variations or additions to the classic BLT may include avocado slices, a fried egg (creating a BLTE), or different types of bread. Some people also like to season the tomatoes with salt and pepper for added flavor. The key to a great BLT is using fresh and high-quality ingredients to highlight the simplicity of this iconic sandwich.
