Ingredients:

  • Bread crumbs or rolled oats
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Burger buns
  • Toppings and condiments of choice (lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, mayonnaise, etc.)


Instructions:


Prepare the Mushrooms:

  • Clean the mushrooms and remove the stems. Finely chop the mushroom caps.

Sauté Mushrooms and Onions:

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until softened. Add the chopped mushrooms and cook until most of the moisture has evaporated.

Season and Cook:

  • Season the mushroom mixture with soy sauce or tamari, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking until the mushrooms are well-cooked and any remaining liquid has evaporated.

Blend or Mash:

  • Transfer the cooked mushroom mixture to a food processor and pulse until it reaches a chunky or smooth consistency. Alternatively, you can mash it with a fork or potato masher.

Form Patties:

  • Mix in bread crumbs or rolled oats to bind the mixture. Form the mixture into burger-sized patties.

Cook the Mushroom Patties:

  • In the same skillet or on a grill, cook the mushroom patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they develop a nice crust and are heated through.

Assemble the Burger:

  • Place the mushroom patty on a burger bun.
  • Add your favorite toppings and condiments such as lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and mayonnaise.
  • Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve:

  • Serve the mushroom burger immediately while it's hot.
