Kluai Buat Chi

By Food E Fare

Kluai Buat Chi is a traditional Thai dessert made with bananas simmered in coconut milk and sweet syrup. Here's a basic recipe to make Kluai Buat Chi:

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas (preferably Pisang Awak or Burro bananas)
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup palm sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pandan leaves (optional, for flavor)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

Prepare Bananas:

  • Peel the ripe bananas and cut them into bite-sized pieces. If using Pisang Awak or Burro bananas, you can cut them into rounds or halves.

Make Sweet Syrup:

  • In a saucepan, combine palm sugar (or brown sugar) and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. If using pandan leaves, tie them into a knot and add them to the syrup for additional flavor.

Simmer Bananas:

  • Add the banana pieces to the sweet syrup. Let them simmer gently over medium-low heat until the bananas are tender but still hold their shape. This usually takes about 5-8 minutes.

Add Coconut Milk:

  • Once the bananas are tender, pour in the coconut milk. Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors. Stir gently to combine.

Simmer in Coconut Milk:

  • Allow the bananas to simmer in the coconut milk for an additional 5 minutes, allowing them to absorb the rich flavors.

Check for Sweetness:

  • Taste the syrup and adjust the sweetness if needed. Add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter dessert.

Serve:

  • Remove the pandan leaves if used. Spoon the bananas and coconut milk into serving bowls.

Optional Garnish:

  • Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added texture and presentation.

Serve Warm or Chilled:

  • Kluai Buat Chi can be served warm or chilled. If serving chilled, refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
