Corn dog

By Food E Fare

A corn dog is a popular American snack consisting of a hot dog or frankfurter that is skewered on a stick, dipped in a thick layer of cornmeal batter, and deep-fried until golden and crispy. Corn dogs are often enjoyed at fairs, carnivals, and sporting events, and are typically served with condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise. They are known for their crunchy exterior and savory, juicy interior, making them a beloved treat for both kids and adults. Here is the recipe of corn dog.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 wooden skewers
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vegetable oil.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth and well combined. The batter should be thick enough to coat the hot dogs evenly. If it's too thick, add a bit more milk.

Prepare the Hot Dogs:

  • Pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels to help the batter adhere better.
  • Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving enough of the skewer exposed for easy handling.

Heat the Oil:

  • Pour enough oil into a deep pot or deep fryer to cover the corn dogs completely. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

Coat the Hot Dogs:

  • Pour the batter into a tall glass or a deep container to make dipping easier.
  • Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Let any excess batter drip off.

Fry the Corn Dogs:

  • Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, to avoid overcrowding.
  • Fry until the corn dogs are golden brown, about 3-5 minutes, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
  • Remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve:

  • Serve the corn dogs hot with your favorite condiments like ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.
